Who has the best burger in the Slope?

I’ve heard good things about 5 guys burgers, but this was supposed to be a date, and that’s not really a date place. But good news, I’ve been blown off, so maybe I’ll try them first since it’s just around the corner from me. I’ll have to try the other recommendations as well. However, I checked Lot 2’s menu and didn’t see a burger on it. But if they do have one I imagine it’s not cheap if they charge $16 for buttered noodles.

I'm a fan of 5 Guys burgers... but beware: the rolls don't stand up to all of the juices from the 2 burgers and the various add-ons, so, unless you're very careful, the whole yummy mess may end up in your lap.
-
Looking at the menu, I don't see a) buttered noodles or b) anything that costs exactly $16
burger with fries = $13. Add a Brooklyn Lager for $2 more .
You can see the burger in the last section (big lots) here:

this is taken directly from lot 2's menu:
burger : grass-fed beef, cheddar cheese, pickles, potato skins & lardo butter $13. with a Brooklyn Lager $15
and they don't even have buttered noodles on their menu. the most expensive thing on the lot 2 menu is the "slow and low" which is beef brisket, pork jowl, lamb rib, carrots and potatoes. it's $22 and a large portion, i was told.

I'm quick like dat ;-) -
i'm gettin' all defensive 'bout my lot 2 now.

That Lot 2 burger sounds good too. The menu I had looked at was through menu pages, not the Lot 2 web site. Thanks for that. I'll have to try all of these some time. I've been meaning to let myself go anyway.
-
FYI, Lot 2 has a new chef...think I read it on Grub Street or TONY today.

I had the burger at Belleville last week. Perfectly cooked, with thick bacon, gruyere and caramelized red onions. It was pretty awesome. I didn't feel like getting fries so they threw in a really good mixed green salad. Kinda fancy, totally delicious.
Agreed on Dram Shop and Five Guys being great. Not that into Bonnie's. -
I tried Bonnies tonight after all the raves I've heard and was sorely disappointed. It was basically a $6 bigmac- the meat was *ok* but not great, the toppings were kind of slimy and the entire thing fell apart when I bit into it (i mean everything fell out of the bun.) I'll hit Dram next time and report back.
-
@ belzjm: couldn't agree more with you. Had the Lot 2 Burger this Sunday and it was superb. We've been eating grassfed burgers for years now and this one was spot on, perfectly cooked and the deal w/ the $2 lager is great.

I don't understand how Corner Burger still exists. Their burger is crap.
Otherwise- it's 5 Guys for me.
Or Bar Toto's burger with the carmelized onions and gruyere (gouda?)
I'm gonna try this Lot 2 everyone's raving about. -
A burger is really all about personal preference. People are talking about crispy bacon, 14oz burgers and all these crazy toppings, but for me it's all about good meat, proper bun and cooked medium-rare. Some of the burgers in the area seem to be more about the toppings and WOW effect than actually tasting like a good burger. To each his own.
Also, a burger really should be made with chuck or some comparable fatty cuts of meat (short rib, brisket) not lean sirloin. -
I've tried several burgers in the Slope, but so far Bonnie's has the best. Grand Canyon and Five Guys are mediocre.
Bonnie's also has the best wings (they're actually authentic Buffalo style, which is rare in NYC). -

I'm no one for fancy pants, super thick burgers, so I may still find Dram Shop as my fave. I found James to be very poor though. Overcooked, it reminded us of a hockey puck, and lacked the juicy, loosely packed grind I look for in a good burger.
Bussaco sure is a different place as when it opened, with the chef changes, but I haven't been dissapointed with the food yet. It's gone from seafood-heavy with a chef with a Le Bernadin pedigree to an almost more comfort-y menu.
If it were to close, I'd be pretty sad. I'll say that.
And yes, the burger is damn good.
Someone else recommended Lot 2. That's a South Slope place that's pretty organ-heavy, right? I'll try to get down there at some point, but those places aren't at the top of my list. "Good burger" is, though. -
JO518:
lot 2's burger is the best i've had in park slope.
i'd say it's one of the best restaurants overall in park slope. definitely better food than busacco, in my opinion. -
A note on Bussaco, their new chef, Kevin, also worked at Le Benardin. He was friends with the previous chef, Matthew Schaeffer, who is now at The Mermaid Inn in Manhattan.
I talked to Kevin from Bussaco and he said he will be doing housemade charcuterie, grilled pizzas and beer pairing dinners in the future. -
This just in, Bark Hot Dogs now has a burger:
"It's Here! The Bark Burger!!! Organic Angus Short Rib, Top Round, Pork Jowl, Bark Sauce....lettuce, bread and butter pickles, onions, sesame seed bun.... "
Sounds like it has potential, but what i'm most interested is the structure of the burger. Thin? Thick? Jowl used as bacon or put into the blend? -
What's the price? I'm guessing $12.
-
I have been craving burgers now for days. Damn you, Brooklynians!
-
Maybe we can organize a burger crawl. Work our way up from Flatbush down 7th to 22nd, over to 5th and back up to Flatbush. It may take a few days though.
-
Ok, so I finally went and tried Five Guys, and my overall opinion is eh. The fries were pretty good, but the burger is just a ground beef patty. It had no spices or flavor, and in fact could have used some salt. I'm pretty sure it's not grass fed because I can usually tell the difference. For the price, it's just not worth it. I'd rather just go to Purity across the street, get some real onion rings and pay less. I'm going to try Lot 2 next I think.

IMHO:
1. Stone Park - hands down the best
2. Bonnie's - a very close second
3. 5 Guys - fast & affordable -
If you get the Five Guys cheese burger with the same Dram Shop burger toppings (lettuce, tomato, raw onion, pickle, mayo and mustard) it takes it to a whole other level of goodness.
-
i'm a pretty big fan of Cornelius' burger. Their home made pickles really top it off with a nice flavor.
-
What is Cornelius? Where is it?

Cornelius is yummy.
Vanderbilt and Pacific (might be Dean) in PH.
...it is unrelated to the character from Planet of the Apes -
since this is more or less on topic, I want to add that the veggie burger at Brooklyn Burger Bar (9th and 7th ave) is surprisingly yummy
sort of like a potato pancake / fritter with lots of other veggies mixed in. very fried and very addictive
Howdy, Stranger!
