Subject: Holy shirt!
NICE gloves apollonia! This is the shirt I'm working on. -
I was going to post a photo of the kimono wrap dress I just finished for my daughter but I can't figure out how to attach an image. The FAQ say that it has to be via a URL on a public site. I just have the photos on my PC. Any way to post them from here?

You just need to upload your pic to an image-hosting site such as photobucket or flickr. If you use flickr, make sure the address ends in .jpg. Flickr tends to add some extra shrubbery at the end that needs to be pruned off. -
Subject: I wanna see it!
Xueling, just e-mail it to me and I'l lpost it on the karaoke server for you. [email protected].
Your daughter's kimono sounds really cool.
My next project is a knit pair of Botafuco-like sweat pants. -
Thanks, Yarn Guy, I just emailed you some photos of the dress and a couple other projects I am working on.
I will figure out the flickr thing soon!
cheers. -

Hey Yarn Guy,
So here is the photo of my daughter's kimono wrap dress. It looks a little blah in a photo but she looks adorable in it.
I'm also working on a baby blanket for my new niece. I don't love the color scheme but my sister-in-law is very into the pink-thing so I resisted knitting what I would have liked for my babies and went with the pink. I didn't think I'd have enough of the border color so I used just one strand for the cast-on border edge. Then, stupidly, I doubled-up the yarn for the side borders thinking that I could just redo the first part (I'm totally sleep-deprived with 2 little ones). Now I realize I can't unravel the cast-on edge and I'll probably have to cut it off! It's making me sweat just thinking about it. The reason I'm telling you this is b/c I'm looking for a resource book which will help me get out of sticky situations like this one (and something that is a good all-around reference). I've heard that Knitting Without Tears and the Vogue resource book are good, would you recommend either or both of them?
Finally, I have to finish up the edges of this tote bag I just made from felting an old sweater and cutting it up. It's slightly more east-west than I would have liked, but it was my first venture in felting.
Cheers,
Xueling -
wow, xueling - lots of awesome projects!!! good luck!

Subject: BOOKS
Xueling, nice stuff. Bet your duaghter is very pleased. Here's your e-mail with photos.
Knitting Without Tears is a great resource book. Some good basics books if you can find them are:
- The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques, Nancie M. Walker (Martingale & Co.)
- Mary Thomas's Knitting Book, Mary Thomas (Dover)
- Big Book of Knitting, Katharina Buss (Sterling Press)
- Knitter's Handbook, Montse Stanley (Reader's Digest)
Unfortuantely, a lot of the new books don't cover repair, but a lot of the old ones do. That would make a great book. Look at School House Press or Dover Publications. School Products (29th /Bway) has a lot ot Dover and Scholl House Press books.
I think you are right about pulling out the single-yarn cast-on edge. Pick up the loops then follow the same moss pattern. It wil be off by a half- stitch registration, but it's better than redoing the whole thing. So don't fret. Maybe this picture of a Yokolope will cheers you up.
-
Thanks! Yes, my daughter loves the dress (it's a hit at preschool) but unfortuntately it took me so long to knit that it's a little snug on her. Oh well, my son should look smashing in it when he gets bigger.
Thanks for the tips on the books, I'll look into them.
Not sure what you mean by being off a half-stitch, but I guess I'll find out soon. Yokolope-- lol. -

Ahh, 2007, we've gained some and we've lost some. I know I gave a lot of yarn away. But let's all reflect on how much stash we've collected and the large bags within bags of dormant projects.

Subject: Annual Sale of Habu Yarn
Feeling spendy? Habu Yarn is having their annual sale on seleced luxury yarns from 15% to 20% off selected items. Although most of these yarns are meant for weaving, you can double them with other yarns for a very stealthly, expensive feel. Habu designs fine fibers for top desingers, so most of these are meant for custom dying.
Annual Sale of Habu Yarn examples are:

There are more sale yarns if you are able to come into our showroom directly. On sale till January 31st. It's worth a field trip. Ask about their stainless steel yarn. Not good for airports or court, but great for... hmmm... mm... it's cool anyway.

Is this every single week? I might just come--I am elbow deep in sweater-making.

Hey Erikka,
No, we meet there every first and second Thursday of the month so the next Knit at Maha's is on Jan 18.
On the other hand, next week Wednesday I'm knitting with a few folks at Prospect Perk January, 10 from 7:30 until 9:30. We meet there regularly every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
NO KNIT in Feb., I might be heading home to handle some family stuff.

Subject: Habu-licious
As I look at my Amex, I put on some decent pants and head to Habu. I'm sweating and my heart is racing. I'm firghtened at the damage that I can do, but I have some wedding gift to make for someone.
I always think its funny that I've spent thousands on purchasing and updating my software and hardware, but I will always strongly debate if I need more luxury yarn. Maybe I'll just play with it like I do with the adoption cats at Hope. I still have this ball of 100% hand-dyed silk yarn that I bought from Purl four years ago. Every now and then I open the box and pet it. -

Same friendly place, same slacker coffee guys but coming soon in February, NEW free trade organic coffee. This is not a knitting class, just a friendly circle for people that knit and crochet.

Subject: Guayabera

So I finshed my guayabera shirt. Here it is on Mario (on left), who very generously loaned his modeling talent this morning. I tried it on earlier but I looked like a used car salesman from Thailand (not pictured). Doug Todd took the photos. I hope Knit.1 likes it. -
Wow! That's amazing! Looks great. How skilled and talented you are!
...I'm strictly a scarf, hat and one time only baby blanket knitter. I'm in awe of your knitty skills! -
Beautiful shirt, Yarn Guy. Is that your own design? Did you pitch to Knit.1 mag?
-
The shirt looks awesome, Yarn Guy-- I'm sure Knit.1 will love it.
Mario does looks great in the shirt but don't be too hard on yourself--better to look like a used car salesman from Thailand than a used tuk-tuk guy from Detroit. Now that would be scary. -
Subject: Let's have a show of hats
Thanks folks, I submitted a sketch that I did on a napkin. Then I had to make it into something real. This is a new worsted weight 100% linen yarn, kinda heavy. Well folks, post some of your stuff, I'd like to see some hats, scarves and blankets! -
I've been knitting little things this winter; scarves, hats, mittens, shrugs. My favorite project of the winter is this dog sweater I made for a teacup yorkie. I made up the pattern based on a modified dishcloth pattern fused with a heart pattern from a baby blanket pattern. Oh, and the buttons are little red hearts.
OK - let's see if I have the skills to post a photo... ...drumroll please.

edit: OK - figured out the photo thing. YEAH! -
Subject: Bow. Wow!
EM, that's one happy dog! Great work, I love the lace open-work on the back. I'm trying to find this picture of this hat I made for a friend's Tonka cat when I was cat sitting. Long story short, he is so afraid of small hats now that when I want him to stop attacking the printer I just leave it on the paper tray. Works like magic (don't tell PETA).
I also made a cardigan for another friend's African Grey. Nice vest, very testy bird, ripped it to shreds. Anyhow, nice dog sweater EM. What's your Yorkie's name? -
Yarnguy--I just heard P&S is closing. Are there any other stores that are similiar that sell cheap acyrlic yarns? I'm looking for caron's simply soft.
-
erikka,
P&S is closing soon. Pearl Paint's Craft store (on the street below Canal, behind Pearl Paint) has cheap acrylic yarn. I think Knit-A-Way on Atlantic has some of the cheap stuff too. -
Subject: P and S
Yep, P and S say they are moving or closing, so check it out soon. Maybe I'll sme of you folks tonight at Propect Perk. I'm bringing teh wool winder if anyone needs it. Cheers. -
Hi all!
I am new to the knitting world. I've been given plenty of easy project ideas but I am still in need of a yarn supply. Any suggestions on the best places to shop? A place with some nice variety so I can sort of feel my way around? Or anything nearby?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! -
Steph,
this was discussed on this thread last month. scroll back a bit to see Yarn Guy's excellent recommendations. If you are beginning I would suggest Knit-A-Way on Atlantic and Bond. They have a big selection of yarns as well as all the accessories you need too. Very close, too. -
Hey Steph, I sent you a PM. Hope you got it. So is P an dS actaully closeing or moving? Would be sad if they jsut folded.
