I've only been once and had coffee and the Russian tea cookies. Loved it. But the other three times I've tried to go, they've been closed. Why close on Sundays and during the week at 7pm? Waaaah!!!
-
so far, the russian tea cookies and lemon blueberry scones are the best. the red velvet cupcake was Damn Good. but those other two are the best. best best best
-
went in to order a cake today, and talked to Moe - he's lovely.. I put in a plug for Sunday hours, and he said that they were planning on opening Sundays, they were just trying to figure out which day to close instead..
-
Many shops in PH are closed on Monday, I'll mention it next time I stop in.
-
Thank heaven for Met Food. They're open 365. They're one of the few stores where you can pick up a newspaper and an Enteman's.
-
FYI - I popped by Joyce today and received:
- awesome service
- a few extra cookies in addition to my gluttonous order
- information: starting this monday, they will be CLOSED on mondays and OPEN on sundays.
- thanks for my business
I love that place
oh. and their iced mocha? bombtastic. -

That's good news! I went there today and scored the last remaining coffee cake (unless more came out?). That place is hopping.

Have I mentioned how good the Russian Cookies are? They're freaking good. I eyed their palmiers, but it was too early for me to get some... but now it's not! -
Wow, I wonder if their schedule change was a direct result of internet hype, kind of like how Snakes on a Plane blew up so big. It's like we're all running some sort of wikiteria.
Maybe we should start talking about other things that would be good to have there, and they'll start molding themselves to fit our needs. I think whoever suggested a ham and cheese croissant or some sort of savory option had some good ideas.
Man, I'd go to Joyce Bakeshop all the time if it served lots of free food just for the hell of it, and also maybe had a smoke machine fueled dance party now and then, and also all the people who worked there were scantily-clad models. -

2 palmiers
they gave me some macaroons.

very doubtful. there wasn't that much "wah sunday" stuff on this board. what? 3 ppl? I'm betting it was more their numbers for saturday versus the rest of the week.

OMFG, I cannot catch a break! Joyce closes at 6 on Saturdays, not at 7 like they do during the week! This makes it the 4th time I go there and the place is closed.

This must be the universe's way of telling me to lay off the sweets. Geez. Eff off, universe! #-o -

I put in a plug for Sundays yesterday too when I went to get vanilla cupcakes for the boys for dessert (they almost had tears in their eyes when they ate them, they were so happy). Joyce was very lovely, and said they were going to do it, but she didn't know when. I'm glad to see it's soon! She also said they were experimenting with quiche, and I mentioned that people were very interested in bread, and she's going to see.
This is so exciting. Another wonderful store in the neighborhood owned and operated by a neighbor! I fear I'll be addicted to the iced lattes by the end of next week.... -

Oh wait, fuck. Do they mean THIS Monday, the 11th?!?! I already made plans to meet people from other parts of Brooklyn there that evening.

EmilyM! Wow! I guess it takes an acute lack of baked goods to bring out the construction worker in you! I like it! =D>

Don't fuck with my knitting group!

yep. at least, I think that's what the sign said .... -
So what are the hours and days then? I went over to Joyce's around 2 pm and saw some punk film students shooting a movie. Which is too bad because I really wanted coffee.

I believe that starting tomorrow they are ... closed Monday (so closed tomorrow) and open Sunday (open a week from today). -
The coffee is ok, but what does it take to get a place that serves something more substantial than dessert?

Um... like a restaurant? There are several of those already on Vandy. Or am I not understanding what sort of place you're hinting at? Do you mean you'd like a bakery that also sells loaves of bread and that kind of thing? 'Cause that would be cool too, and I'm sure we'll get something like that in the area eventually. -
I would be so psyched to have a place that sold savory baked goods & especially BREAD. No place to get a decent loaf in the hood.
-
So, anyone else think Joyce is pricey?
$1 for a single, small palmier? $2 for a tiny croissant? $2 for a tiny cupcake? The sizes/prices are better in Manhattan.
I can't do these kind of prices on a regular basis. :-( -

I agree.

The coffee fueled my day today, though. I'll pay up for that. -
whenever they have half off the pastries is a great time at Joyce. the coffee is worth the price anytime, I think.
and that damn red velvet cupcake is worth the trouble. -

The coffee is the right price, along with the russian cookies! 2 for a dollar is where it's at.

I'll have to get on the half price train whenever I figure out the times. I just now figured out the store's business hours. -

I had an excellent lemon and blueberry scone that was reasonable, in price and in portion, but I was also taken aback by the price of a tiny chocolate cupcake (it was half the height of its wrapper!) with what appeared to be a bit of marshmallow fluff. It was good, but not that good.

Very glad though that the coffee is terrific and not overly expensive. I'm also impressed by Joyce's apparent willingness to adjust hours in response to customer requests - it's a welcome, and welcoming, addition to the neighborhood. And a stark contrast to its neighbor across the street. -
oh yeah. the SCONES are absurd. so damn good. probably the best value on the food menu.

Joyce got a nice feature in the NY Times Dining section today:

Yay, Joyce! I'm about to go there now! =D>

I agree, but I'd rather see the prices come down than the sizes go up. I stop in mainly to get my 2.5yr old a treat once a week and I appreciate the fact that the cupcakes and muffins are not going to keep her on a sugar buzz all day. She's usually a pretty good sharer in general but she was not letting me near her red velvet cupcake today. It looked so good and got the thumbs up from the toddler.

Is the decaf as good as the regular coffee that everyone raves about? I'm only doing unleaded these days.
Howdy, Stranger!
